Police seeking man in connection with hit and run with a police cruiser

Gadsden Police are searching for a man who was involved in a Sunday nigth hit-and-run accident with a Gadsden Police officer . Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 21 year old Cedric Laverne Green Jr., of Gadsden, for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and third-degree assault.  The 36-year-old officer was passing through the intersection of Litchfield Avenue and Hoke Street in his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria when a 2007 Dodge Charger allegedly ran the stop sign and hit the officer’s vehicle at the driver’s-side door. The impact sent the cruiser into a power pole, snapping the pole in two just above the ground. The Crown Victoria spun around and was facing north in the southbound lane of Hoke Street when it came to a stop. Green and three other passengers fled immediately while one remained at the scene. Police say that Green had borrowed the car for the evening. The owner said she tried to get her car back about 9:55 p.m., texting Green. She got no response and then saw him and someone else running toward her home. They told her they had just hit a police officer. The officer went to the hospital that evening as a precaution but was not badly hurt after the accident.
