Jacksonville police are searching for the driver of a white,
four-door truck that a witness said struck a 11-year-old girl after Mondays
Christmas lighting on the square.
Mekenzie Frain, was not seriously injured in the accident, which
occurred on the west side of the Public Square after the city’s Christmas
lighting ceremony, the girl’s grandmother, Janice Hammond, said. Hammond said
her granddaughter was crossing the street when the truck struck the girl as her
mother tried to push her out of the way.
Jacksonville police Chief Tommy Thompson confirmed that the incident
happened, but said no police report was filed and that he didn’t know about the
incident until Tuesday afternoon. Hammond
said people leaving the event Monday evening stopped to ask if the girl was OK
as the girl’s mother carried her to the car to take her to an emergency
room. Anyone with more information about
the incident can contact the Jacksonville Police Department at (256) 435-6448.
