A 54 year old Georgia man plead guilty Wednesday to sexually
abusing an Etowah County child. Cecil Benefield was charged with sodomy and
sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age. After Benefield entered his
guilty plea wednesday, Judge Bill Rhea sentenced him to 25 years and 20 years
respectively. The charges were filed after a relative reported that Benefield
had molested her repeatedly between the ages of five and twelve years old.
Benefield faces similar charges in at least one other Alabama county.
