A 20 Albertville man
is being held on $1 million bond after being charged Wednesday with
manslaughter and assault stemming from a July wreck that claimed the lives of
four people and injured three others.
Adrian Michael Renteria, was charged with four counts of manslaughter
and three counts of second-degree assault after he was indicted by a Marshall
County grand jury. Renteria originally
was charged with lying to investigators about the wreck because his account of
the crash did not match evidence found during the investigation. He was charged
with making a false report and obstructing government operations. It was determined through the investigation
that he was driving the pickup that wrecked July 14 on U.S. Highway 431, north
of Guntersville. Renteria was served
with the warrants by troopers from the Alabama Department of Public Safety’s
traffic homicide unit, according to a news release on behalf of Marshall County
District Attorney Steve Marshall. State
troopers at the time of the wreck said nine people were riding in the pickup
that flipped and caught fire. Four people ranging in age from 13 to 21 were
killed.
