The Etowah County Board of Education Thursday awarded a bid for construction for
the new Sardis Middle School saving
about $1 million from the first bids in August. The school board awarded the bid for $6.5
million to Carmon Construction of Albertville. The board members voted in
August to reject the bids after the lowest bid was about $7.6 million, well
above the projected $7 million for the project. School Supt. Alan Cosby said Construction
will get underway soon. The school originally was scheduled to be ready for
students by the beginning of next school year, but that will be delayed
slightly. Construction of the new middle school is needed to address increasing
enrollment at Carlisle Elementary, Whitesboro Elementary and Sardis High
schools.
