Members of The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit seized
1.5 pounds of methamphetamine earlier this month. Working with the Gadsden Special Projects
Team the unit made two arrests for trafficking methamphetamine and one for
distributing methamphetamine. The incidents leading to the arrests happened
Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. 37 year old Sandy
Regina Wilson Cook, 37, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and
unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. 35 year old Richard Lee
Hunter, also was charged with distribution. They were arrested Nov. 6 during
Operation Sunrise. agents and the
Special Projects Team made several buys from the pair and obtained arrest
warrants for distribution and a search warrant for their residence on Sansom
Avenue. When agents arrived to execute the search warrant, the two were not
there. Cook and Hunter arrived while
agents were still there and as they were walking up to the door, Haney said
Hunter threw a black bag away after spotting police. The bag contained a
half-pound of meth, valued at about $1,200.
The next day, authorities seized an even larger amount of meth during a
traffic stop. 37 year old Marcus Anthony
Lewis, Alpharetta, Ga., was pulled over at Mallory Street and Baker Avenue in
East Gadsden. During the stop, authorities found a pound of meth inside a
plastic box in the car. All three were taken to the Etowah County Detention
Center. Cook is being held on $55,000 bond and Lewis is being held without
bond. Hunter was released on $5,000 bond.
