The Internal Revenue Service announced Tuesday that they
will delay the processing of tax returns by as much as two weeks as they move
to make up time lost due to the 16-day
government shutdown. The change won't
impact deadlines for taxpayers but is necessary to give the IRS time to program
and test its tax processing systems. The
original start date of the tax filing season was Jan. 21. That's been moved
back to no earlier than Jan. 28 and no later than Feb. 4. Officials say the IRS is working to lessen
the delay and said Tuesday that Any additional changes to the schedule will be
announced in December.
