Governor Robert Bentley made a stop in Gadsden Tuesday
evening where he served as the keynote speaker at the Etowah County Republican
Party dinner. The governor told the group that Congress
should look to the states and their governors to stop implementation of the
Affordable Care Act. The governor joined the
party in honoring former Congressman Jim Martian, who many credit with starting
the modern Republican Party movement in Alabama.
Bentley said he was “a little
concerned” about the recent federal government shutdown, which he attributed to
the Affordable Care Act, because he did not want to turn public opinion against
opponents of the legislation More than 500 people attended the annual
fundraiser.
