Gadsden police say they are investigating a Friday night
accident that sent A 58-year-old Gadsden man to the hospital after he drove his car into an apartment
building. Police say The accident
occurred about 10:47 p.m. Friday on S.
11th St. Police arrived to find the driver disoriented and confused, and the
airbags in the car deployed. The driver agreed to go to the hospital after
being asked by the police. After he stepped out of the car, the officer
immediately smelled alcohol, and the driver could barely walk on his own. He
was taken to Riverview Regional Medical Center, where he gave a blood and urine
sample but refused treatment an hour into his stay. The man was medically cleared to leave the
hospital and police gave him a ride back to his home. The man has not been charged but police
say the case is still being
investigated.
