Anniston reinstates two cent per gallon gas tax

The price of Gasoline in the city of Anniston is likely to increase as the Anniston city council Monday voted to reinstate a 2 cent per gallon tax on gasoline.  The two-cent a gallon tax was first adopted in 1985 but waived beginning in 2007.   City leaders say various other cities have similar taxes and the money is already earmarked for the city's road and bridge fund.
Mayor Vaughn Stewart said this tax is dedicated to road and bridges and maintanance and repair. So it's only fair to our citizens that we have a revenue source for those improvements for roads and bridges.
Stewart said gas prices never changed when the city stopped the tax and he doesn't expect them to change this time.
