The Oxford City Council approved changes Monday to the
city’s operating budget to purchase equipment for several departments.
The changes, included deleting budgeted positions that had
not been filled to free up money for requested positions and vehicles. The
council’s action resulted in the addition of $1.67 million to the city’s
general expenditures fund.
The added expenditures include eight new police vehicles,
dump trucks for the Street Department and an appropriation for extending sewer
lines down four Oxford streets.
City finance director Alton Craft told the council in a work
session before the meeting that by amending the operating budget with the new
expenditures, the city could expect an operating surplus of $55,210.
