Sheriff Todd Entrekin |
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin is warning local
convenience stores that having gambling devices inside of their business is
illegal.
The sheriff's office is asking business owners to have the
machines removed before next week or face arrests. They say individuals who are
caught with the machines could face misdemeanor charges of possession of a
gambling device or promoting gambling.
The sheriff's office says it has worked with other state law
enforcement agencies to enforce Alabama laws that make electronic gambling
devices illegal.
Business owners with questions about possible illegal
machines inside their business are encouraged to call the Etowah County
Sheriff's Office at 256-546-2825 to have them inspected.
The sheriff's office says an investigation is ongoing and
additional information will be released as it becomes available.
