Talladega shooting under investigation

Authorities said a Talladega man was shot and killed at his residence Friday night. 

Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy identified the victim as 30 year old Joseph Shawn Herrington.

Murphy said Herrington’s death was ruled a homicide. Murphy said the victim died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Talladega police Capt. John McCoy said authorities do not have a suspect in custody.

He said the victim lived with two other people who were in a different part of the residence at the time of the shooting.

Mccoy said They heard shots but didn’t see the shooter.

He said Herrington was dead when police arrived at the home on Alabama 21, which is just south of Midway Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

McCoy said the shooting happened at around 11:30 p.m. He said the investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
