Boy Scouts victims of theft

A Boy Scouts of America troop in east Gadsden has lost almost everything after someone stole their single trailer.
BSA Troop 58 kept all of its belongings in a trailer that was donated several years ago by Hare Wrecker of Glencoe.
That includes everything they took with them on campouts and jamborees, such as tents and lanterns, as well as axes and saws.
In fact, the troop was getting ready for an upcoming camping trip.
The tools were handed down for decades, some dating all the way back to when the troop was first chartered by the East Gadsden Goodyear Plant in 1935. Other items were paid for with fundraisers held by the Scouts themselves.
Now it's all gone, at a total loss of $8,000.
The theft was discovered when a scoutmaster and the scouts came to East Gadsden United Methodist Church on Monday evening for their normal scout meeting, and noticed the trailer was gone.
All that was left behind was a pair of broken locks. Even the cinder blocks on which the trailer sat were missing.
The troop is reaching out on social media. contacting pawn shops and scrap metal companies in hopes of tracking down their property.
Anyone with information on the missing trailer should contact the Gadsden Police Department at 256-549-4500.
