Suspect in gadsden assaults arrested in Florida

Christopher Lewis

On May 6, 2015, Gadsden police say 29-year-old Christopher Lamont Lewis told police he was robbed at gunpoint by nine men on North 8th Street. Lewis says he was driving by the American Legion when he was waved down by a group of men who approached him and asked him to see his inventory of 300 pair of polo socks he apparently kept inside his vehicle. Lewis says after displaying the socks he became nervous after the guys told him they would just take all his socks and his money. He says they held weapons on him, beat him with bottles, and took his belongings. He was able get away but suffered a cut over his left eye. He drove to a convenience store in the 1100 block of West Meighan Boulevard and called police. Police responded and took a report. Lewis drove himself to Riverview Regional Hospital for treatment.
On that some night following the incident, two elderly women patients of Riverview Regional Hospital says they were forcibly subjected to sexual contact inside their respective rooms by a man fitting Lewis' description. Three other patients reported the same man entered their rooms but nothing else happened.
Two sexual abuse first warrants for Christopher Lewis were issued. On May 9, 2015, Lewis was arrested in Escambia County Florida on burglary and theft offenses. There's no word on when he will be transferred back to Etowah County.
