Pedestrian killed in Gadsden Accident



Authorities say A 71-year-old man died Friday night after he was struck by a car as he crossed Meighan Boulevard at Springfield Avenue.
Etowah County Coroner Michael Head said Gordon Williams Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
He said the man had just made a purchase at a store and was crossing Meighan Boulevard heading toward Starnes Park about 8 p.m. when he was struck by a Buick traveling westbound on Meighan Boulevard. The Buick had a green light.
When the man was hit, he was thrown onto the hood of the Buick and remained there as it traveled 131 feet before the driver pulled off the road and stopped.
When the car stopped, the man was thrown off the hood of the car and he was struck then by a Volkwagen.
