Former Sardis Town Clerk arrested

Douglas Harold Gamblin

A man who served the town of Sardis for more than 20 years as its clerk was arrested Wednesday on theft charges.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said 55 year old Douglas Harold Gamblin,  of Crossville, has been charged with one count of first degree theft of property. Investigators say more charges are expected.
Gamblin resigned suddenly back in April from the job after town officials requested a special audit. Investigators say Gamblin stole about $13,500 from the town's court fund between last October and March of this year.
Gamblin was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $5,000 bond.
