Gadsden police charge woman in reported wreck

Gadsden police were called to a reported wreck Thursday evening where they found a woman under the influence who had to be admitted to the hospital because of her altered mental state.  Police responded to the intersection of Hood Avenue and East Broad Street about 7 p.m. They found a 27-year-old woman passed out behind the wheel of her still-running Camaro in the middle of the travel lane on Hood Avenue. The woman had vomited on herself and down the side of the car, according to the police report. Medics were called because the woman couldn't get out the car on her own or stand on her own. According to the police report, her speech was slurred, and she was unsteady.  When officers asked her what year it was, she couldn't tell them, and she couldn't tell them the name of the president of the United States.
Officers were unable to administer standard field sobriety tests because the woman was so intoxicated. They observed a partially smoked blunt in the floorboard of the car, along with several spoons containing what looked like drug residue.
Medics asked the woman what she'd used to become intoxicated, and she told them she'd smoked Clone, a street name for synthetic cannabis.
Officers told the woman she was under arrest and took her to a local hospital. At the hospital, she continued to be violent and uncooperative, cursing officers and nurses and continuing to curse them even after she was asked to stop because there were children in the area.  The woman refused medical treatment from the emergency room staff. She refused a chemical breath analyzer and blood analysis. A warrant was obtained for a blood sample, and it was drawn by the emergency room personnel.
The woman was admitted to the hospital because of her altered mental state.
