Candidate removed from July runoff ballott in Etowah County

Lana Gaskin Bellew

A Candidate in the July 15h runoff election ballot for the district 4 seat on the Etowah county commission has been removed from the ballot After missing a filing deadline.  Lana Gaskin Bellew said she will launch a write-in campaign for the November election.  Her name was removed Thursday from the July 15 runoff election ballot by the Republican Candidate Committee for not filing a statement of economic interest on time with the State Ethics Commission.  The removal means Commissioner Jeff Overstreet is the Republican nominee.  Overstreet barely missed winning without a runoff over Bellew and Randall Green in the June 3 primary and would have faced Bellew in the runoff. Overstreet received 48.96 percent of the vote to Bellew’s 30.91 percent and Green’s 20.13 percent.  Overstreet does not have Democratic opposition in November.  Friday was the deadline for candidates to be certified for the runoff election.
