Alexandria man charged with Attempted Murder in home invasion

Terry Centers

An Alexandria man was arrested over the weekend and charged with attempted murder after police say he forced his way into a home in Calhoun County and stabbed a woman numerous times before stealing some of her personal items.
Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson says the victim answered her door around 5 p.m. on Saturday to find 46-year-old Terry Centers, who had previously done work on her house.
Amerson says Centers stabbed the woman with a screwdriver and forced his way into the home. She moved further into the house and Centers followed her. He says Centers grabbed numerous knives and cut the woman’s face and neck numerous times.
Centers then took the woman’s purse and cell phone and left the scene,. The woman, unable to walk, crawled outside and rolled several hundred feet to the end of her driveway.
Drivers passing by on Highway 431 noticed the woman and stopped to help. She was later airlifted to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Centers was located later that night around 2 a.m. when officers in Anniston spotted a car matching his vehicle’s description. Amerson says the officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Centers.
He’s being held in the Calhoun County Jail without bond and is charged with attempted murder and first-degree burglary.
