Authorities searching for Oxford man following Monday chase

A manhunt began in Munford just before noon Monday when a man drove away from an officer, careened into a line of hedge at a wooded area near Priebes Mill Road and ran away.
The suspect, 47 year old Phillip Hugh Jacks, of Oxford, had not been captured as of late Monday afternoon, according to a release from the the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The release stated that the incident began at a Jack's restaurant shortly before noon, that the vehicle driven by the suspect was stolen in Gulf Shores and that he has felony warrants out for his arrest.
Talladega County Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore said two people attempted to run over Munford's lone law enforcement officer, police Chief Jeff Rutledge, during the incident. Rutledge responded by firing at the vehicle to disable it and running after one suspect when he fled..
Senior State Trooper Chuck Daniel only identified one suspect in the incident and was unable to say whether more than one person was in the vehicle during the chase.
He said local agencies called on the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the FBI to assist with the officer-involved shooting. Daniel also said that the state agency sent a helicopter to the scene to help with the search.
