Calhoun 911 director arrested at Atlanta Airport

Kevin Jenkins

Atlanta Police say that Calhoun County E-911 Director Kevin Jenkins was arrested and charged for carrying a loaded firearm into the Hartsfield-Jackson International Atlanta Airport on June 28.
Police also say, Jenkins did not have a current, valid weapon's permit at the time he was arrested. The permit he was carrying expired on March 16, 2013.
The firearm, a .380 Smith & Wesson, was noticed at a security checkpoint by a TSA agent while Jenkin's bag being scanned with an X-ray machine. The agent reports the gun was found in a zipped front compartment of Jenkins' carry on bag.
It is against the law to carry any firearms in carry on baggage. According to the TSA, firearms can be carried in checked baggage but must be unloaded, stored in a hard-sided container and declared to an airline at check in.
An Atlanta police officer arrived and arrested Jenkins. He was booked for carrying a weapon at an airport. He bonded out later on June 28.
There is a special-called meeting of the E-911 board today at 6:30 p.m.
