Man arrested for impersonating police officer

David Michael Combs

A Fyffe man has been arrested and charged with impersonating a peace officer. Investigators are looking for people that may have come in contact with David Michael Combs.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said 43 year old David Michael Combs, of Fyffe, is charged with one felony count of impersonating a peace officer.
Sheriff’s Office Chief Lee Taylor witnessed Comb’s 2007, white Tahoe driving down Rainbow Drive with blue lights on shortly before 2 p.m. on July 23.  Chief Taylor followed in behind and noticed the vehicle had a handicap license plate.  He then made a traffic stop on Combs’s Tahoe.  Chief Taylor asked Combs where he was going and what agency he was affiliated with.  Combs stated that he was going to a wreck.  There was no wreck on Rainbow Drive at the time of the incident.  Combs was dressed in a black t-shirt with the word "Police" on it, and had two guns, handcuffs, and a handheld radio in the vehicle.  As he was questioned further, Combs mentioned he was a constable in Dekalb County.  Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris confirmed that he is not a constable and does not have any authority in the county.  Combs was arrested and convicted on the same charge in December 1993 in Jackson County.    He is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $2,500 property bond.  If anyone has had contact with Combs while he was impersonating an officer they are urged to  contact the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office or Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office.
