Anniston man facing multiple charges

Joshua Adam Gortney

Oxford police have charged an Anniston man in connection with a robbery after he allegedly attacked a cashier with a machete at the Coldwater Chevron in Oxford last week.  30 year old Joshua Adam Gortney,  pulled a machete on the gas station cashier Aug. 29 and struck the cashier on the arm, according to a news release from Oxford police Capt. L.G. Owens.  Gortney came around the counter and demanded money, but the cashier escaped over the counter with little injury. Gortney fled in a Toyota Tacoma after taking half a case of VivaZen, an herbal dietary drink and some cash.
Gortney is charged with several other prior offenses by police in Lincoln and Anniston.
Oxford police traveled to Talladega County to arrest Gortney and process him on the charges. His bond is set at $60,000.
Anniston police also have four outstanding warrants on Gortney.
Gortney’s charges from Anniston police include first-degree theft of property, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and breaking and entering of a vehicle, with a total bond of $1.2 million. Police statements did not make clear whether the incidents in Anniston occurred before or after the Oxford incident.
Gortney was arrested by Lincoln police Sunday on a first-degree burglary charge and a third-degree assault charge with bond set at $100,000.
Gortney remains in the Talladega County Jail.
