Anthony Hale |
A Georgia high school last week honored the memory of a
student who was killed in March in downtown Gadsden. Adairsville High School's football team will
keep the jersey of Anthony Hale Jr. draped over its bench for the remainder of
the season,.
Hale, a student at Gadsden City High School, grew up in
Gadsden and played both football and basketball. He also played at Adairsville,
and would have been a senior this year. His uncle Torrey is an assistant coach with
the team.
For last week's game, Adairsville teammates brought Hale's
No. 6 jersey out to the opening coin toss. The crowd also observed a moment of
silence. Players wrote the number 6 on wrist tape, towels and had stickers with
the number 6 on their helmets.
Hale died after being wounded in the head outside a downtown
Gadsden nightclub when police say several men pulled out weapons and began
firing into a crowd. Three juveniles were also wounded - one in the leg, one in
the buttocks and another suffering a graze wound. Five men were arrested in
connection with the crime.
