Gadsden City, Gaston, Glencoe and Munford were among the
movers in the state high school football rankings released late Tuesday night
by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Glencoe (2-0) entered the 3A
rankings at No. 9, Gadsden City (2-1) jumped two spots to No. 8 in the 7A
rankings and Gaston (2-0) gained the 2A rankings at No. 10. And Munford jumped
to 8 in class 4a after an upset win Friday night over Leeds.
The Yellow Jackets defeated then-No. 7 Walter Wellborn 28-27
in overtime of the Region 6 matchup Friday night. The Titans defeated Sparkman
66-34 in Region 4 play. The Bulldogs defeated Section 12-7 in a Region 7 game.
Fyffe, the defending 2A state champion, lost its top ranking
in 2A after the Red Devils' 21-14 loss to Cleveland, which jumped from No. 7 to
No. 4.
Other area teams ranked this week are Piedmont at No. 3 in
3A, Cedar Bluff at No. 4 in 1A and Spring Garden at No. 9 in 1A. Saks at number
6 in class 4a
