Couple arrested in New York for Cherokee County home invasion



Authorities say A couple who allegedly fled to New York have been apprehended and charged with robbery in connection with a home invasion that injured a Gaylesville area woman in July.  Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says that  41 year old Scott D. Miller, of Fort Payne, and 34 year old Courtney D. Steele, of Cedar Bluff, have been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.
On July 17, Cherokee deputies and the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit responded to the robbery and assault of a woman in her Gaylesville home. Several items were taken.  Within a couple of days, 24 year old Jeffery L. Epps, of Gaylesville, and 27 year old  Brandie N. Webb, of Fyffe, were arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.

Just hours after the crime occurred, two other suspects fled to New York. When investigators learned of their whereabouts, they contacted the United States Marshals Service for assistance. The USMS found and arrested Miller and Steele and they were returned to Alabama. They were booked Wednesday into the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Epps remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center, and Webb is out on bond awaiting trial.
