Police say At least five different shooting incidents over
the weekend in Talladega left two people injured and caused significant
property damage.
the first incident reported was around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on
Savory Street. A witness described the incident as a shootout.
Ten spent .30 caliber shell casings were recovered, as well
as 17 .223 caliber casings.
No one was hit during this exchange, although one bullet did
penetrate a trailer and lodge in the back of a television set, while two more
shots struck a vehicle. The next incident appears to have taken place between
10 and 11 p.m. Friday on Pearl Street but was not reported until Saturday
morning. At least five shots struck this vehicle, including two that ended up
inside the trunk and one that lodged in the back of one of the seats inside the
car.
The first injury came from an incident at Arbor Park
Apartments just after midnight Sunday morning.
Several shots penetrated the house, including one in each
leg of a 17-year-old who lived there. At least one bullet passed through
several interior walls before hitting the washing machine, and others passed
through the living room and out the back.
Investigators also found another bullet in the neighboring
home of a 68-year-old man, who apparently did not realize his home had been
shot into.
The next incident took place just after 4 p.m. Sunday on
East Sloan Avenue. Four cars, including a Nissan Maxima, a Chevrolet Impala, a
Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Suburban were all damaged, but no one was injured.
The other injury involved a driveby shooting on Roosevelt
Street on Sunday at around 7:30 p.m. The victim, who was hit in the right arm,
was driving his girlfriend’s car when a black Maxima pulled up to him and
fired.
None of the injuries suffered by this weekend’s victims were
lift-threatening.
Police are asking Anyone with information on these incidents
to contact the Talladega Police Department at 256-299-4111.
