The body of a 59-year-old man was found inside his Blount
County home after an early morning fire on Thursday. Preliminary reports from the coroner
indicated that the victim, Randy Longshore, died of smoke inhalation. There was
not trauma to his body and authorities do not believe foul play is involved.
The coroner said the home's tin roof also fell in on Longshore. They won't know
his official cause of death until the autopsy is completed. Longshore's daughter dropped him off at the
home at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cleveland firefighter Anita Pass. A
passerby reported seeing the fire at the home on Highway 79 in the Cleveland
area around 12:15 a.m. It was fully
involved when crews from the Cleveland, Rosa and Blountsville volunteer fire
departments arrived on the scene,.
Investigators have some theories about how the fire started, but are not
positive about any of them yet. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
