Talladega man arrested in knife attack

A 59 year old Talladega man is being held on a $50,000 bond after being charged with assault in the first degree.

According to police, Raymond Leroy Wiseman, was arrested Tuesday with the assistance of the Ashland and Lineville Police departments.

On Oct. 4, Wiseman allegedly attacked 49 year old Terry Hayes, at Hayes’ residence. The evidence is that Hayes had his throat cut from ear to ear.

investigators were able to locate Wiseman thanks to an anonymous tip.

After determining that Wiseman was, in fact, at a drug detoxification and rehabilitation center in Clay County, Talladega police enlisted the help of officers in Ashland and Lineville, and was able to serve the arrest warrant on Wiseman without incident.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hayes was on a ventilator at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. If his condition worsens, Wiseman could face more serious charges.

Investigators said Wiseman and Hayes were “acquaintances,” and declined to comment on possible motives for the attack.
