The Talladega Rescue Squad has chosen to dissolve amid a
possible criminal matter, announcing plans to start disposing of the
organization’s assets.
In a presentation to the Talladega City Council on Monday
evening, a squad spokesman cited a declining number of volunteers and internal
politics as the primary drivers of dissolution.
As for the squad’s equipment, at least one vehicle will be
donated to a local nonprofit, and three boats will be donated to the Talladega
and Lincoln Fire departments and the Renfroe Volunteer Fire Department.
The remaining vehicles and equipment will be offered for
sale.
The squad’s appropriation from the city of Talladega’s
general fund will be returned to the city, and the tobacco tax money the squad
received from the county will go back to the county.
Proceeds from the sales of the leftover equipment and the
squad’s certificate of deposit, will be combined and donated to worthy local
charities.
