Suspicious Gadsden fires under investigation

Gadsden firefighters have called police into their investigation of a suspicious fire that damaged two vehicles being stored on Robinson Avenue.
The vehicles, a 1992 Cadillac and a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, were discovered burning between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Gadsden Fire Marshal Heath Smith reported discovering a new-looking package of “Mainstays” washcloths at the scene, soaked in gasoline. A couple of washcloths had been removed and appeared to have been pushed down into the gas tanks of both vehicles and set on fire.
That name brand of washcloths is sold only at one local vendor; Smith checked with the nearest location and found that a woman had purchased the package of washcloths and a pair of gloves about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The investigation continues.
