Bomb discovered during Oxford burglary arrest

A burglary arrest by Oxford police Friday resulted in the bomb squad safely detonating a pipe bomb found by police in the suspects truck. Oxford police began searching for the suspect Friday morning after receiving a report of a house burglary. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Johnny Stevens, eventually turned into a random driveway and tried to escape from his truck, but was captured by police.  According to Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge, Officers searched the suspect's red Ford Ranger pickup and discovered a pipe bomb inside.  The Jefferson County bomb squad and members of the ATF responded to the scene and safely detonated the pipe bomb in the street near the area where Stevens parked his truck.  Stevens has been charged with burglary and possession of a controlled substance. He could face federal charges as well.
