State officials will hold A meeting this Wednesday in
Montgomery to discuss the future of
extending Interstate 759 in East
Gadsden. Representatives from the
Alabama Department of Transportation, local officials, Etowah County’s
legislative delegation, federal officials and others are expected to attend the
meeting set for 2pm in room 807 at the state capitol building. The meeting was called after ALDOT officials
announced earlier this month that a “no-build option” on the project had been
recommended by the state and accepted by the Federal Highway
Administration. Four different routes
had been suggested by ALDOT for the project, but Division One Chief Engineer
Johnny Harris said the department could not come up with a route that would
meet environmental requirements. All four routes would affect a number of homes
and businesses.
