Hobson City shooting

Calhoun county authorities say a Wednesday afternoon shooting at a Hobson City home has left one victim dead and another seriously injured.  According to Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade  the shooting took place at a home on the corner of Washington Street and Council Avenue around 2 p.m. Law enforcement was called to the scene after a woman ran down Washington Street and knocked on several doors to say she had been shot. Wade did not identify the woman, but said she had been taken to Regional Medical Center after suffering two gunshot wounds.  investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, Oxford police, the District Attorney’s Office and the Coroner’s Office searched the scene. The body of a man was removed from the backyard of the home around 4 p.m.  Wade said the shooting was likely a domestic incident, but said he could not release further details until the investigation was complete and an autopsy had been performed on the body. Wade confirmed the dead victim was Johnny Evans, who several residents in the crowd of onlookers called “Little Johnny.” Wade did not have any more information about either victim and did not know the relationship between the two.  Wade said no arrests have been made, but the Sheriff’s Office believes everyone involved in the shooting is accounted for.
