Hobson City Shooting Update

Johnny Austin Evans

More details have been released on a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Hobson City.  Authorities say they believe Johnny Austin Evans shot his girlfriend Wednesday before turning the gun on himself.  Evans was no stranger to violent crime.  The 34 year old had been convicted of manslaughter in 1998 in connection with the 1996 shooting death of Christopher Jackson.  Evans died Wednesday from a single gunshot wound to the head in the backyard of his home on Council Avenue in Hobson City. Calhoun County chief deputy Matthew Wade said Thursday that investigators believe Evans shot his girlfriend, 22 year old Tuy Kim Truong, of Oxford, twice in his home before shooting himself.  Evans was convicted in 1998 of manslaughter in the shooting death of Christopher Jackson.  According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, Evans was released from prison on parole Jan. 7, 2010. His sentence was to have ended in 2015.
