The Blount County Sheriff's office in Oneonta is dealing
with a big mess after a water line broke.
According to Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington At 9:30 wednesday
morning, the water pipe which is a feeding line for the departments sprinkler
system ruptured. The sheriff said they had a one inch pipe with water pressure
at like 125 pounds shooting out and it ran from four to six minutes before you
could get to a shut off valve to stop it.
Arrington says the break flooded the lobby and four offices with three
inches of water and collapsed the ceiling. All of the computers were damaged as
was the phone system. The jail was not
impacted, but the administrative side of the sheriff's office is closed until
further notice. Anyone needing a report or a permit are being redirected to the
Hayden location.
Arrington knows the cost to fix this will be in the
thousands. The good news is the computers were backed up and no information was
lost.
Arrington is hoping to be back up and running by Friday.
