With this years legislative session set to begin next week, District
10 State Senator Phil Williams of Etowah County met with members of the board
of directors of The Chamber of Gadsden and Etowah County Thursday to discuss
the future of Sunday alcohol sales in Gadsden. Williams said he asked for
Thursdays meeting to clear up some misrepresentations that have been floating
around the community. Chamber executive director Heather New said the meeting was a good way to open
some new lines of communication. The senator has asked for an economic impact study that is
currently underway, and says that he has no plans to block a bill allowing a
public vote on the issue.Rep Craig Ford has said he plans to introduce legislation
in the opening days of the session to allow for a vote.
