Attalla woman charged with Child Endangerment

An 18-year-old Attalla woman was arrested for child endangerment after leaving her 2-year-old child at home alone on Saturday.  Katie Renea Halbert was charged with reckless endangerment through the domestic violence law, which resulted in a misdemeanor third-degree domestic violence charge. A family member found the 2-year-old outside an Ivalee home holding a lengthy suicide note written by Halbert, who had been reported missing.  Halbert was later found unharmed, wandering in a pasture off Double A Circle near Ivalee. A number of fire departments joined law enforcement in the search using ground and air units to find her.  Halbert is in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $1,000 property bond. Her child is being cared for by the Department of Human Resources.
