Officials say a Wednesday night accident on U.S. 78 near the Cleburne Calhoun County line
claimed the life of a Heflin woman. 64
year old Cathy McComb, died after being airlifted to UAB Hospital in
Birmingham. Officials say the accident
occurred near 9:30 Wednesday night and believe that black ice on the roadway
contributed to the crash. The accident
is still under investigation by Alabama state troopers. Troopers say the vehicle McComb was driving
collided with another vehicle at mile marker 171, about 5 miles west of Heflin.
A third vehicle then struck the wreckage.
McComb was injured when the third car crashed into the wreck. A
passenger in McComb’s car also was injured and taken to Regional Medical Center
in Anniston.
