Glencoe Post office closure meeting letter sent in error

Officials with the united states postal service say A letter from the U.S. Postal Service last week announcing a public hearing in February on the possible closing of the Glencoe Post Office was issued in error.   Postal service officials say there is currently a moratorium on post office closures. The Glencoe Post Office is on a list slated for closure by the Postal Service.  A letter last week from Roman King, manager of Post Office Operations, said the Postal Service was conducting a “discontinuance feasibility study” of facility operations at the Glencoe branch. The letter said a public meeting would be held Feb. 2 at First Baptist Church of Glencoe to discuss the closing and to get comments from the public. Postal service officials say That process was halted, at least for the time being.  Debra Fetterly, a spokeswoman for the Alabama District of the USPS said Friday that The letter, dated Jan. 13, 2014, which was sent to P.O. box customers and provided in the post office for retail customers, was issued in error.
