Governor Robert Bentley |
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is declaring a state of
emergency in advance of a winter storm that’s moving into the state. Ice is expected to be the biggest safety
threat as colder temperatures and precipitation move into Alabama early
Tuesday. Temperatures aren’t expected to rebound until midday Thursday. Bentley
says he’s encouraging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel. The National
Weather Service is predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow across central and south
Alabama and ice accumulation that could lead to power outages. Alabama
transportation crews are hustling to move salt and spreader trucks, normally
only kept in north Alabama, to the southern part of the state. The state is
also postponing special elections that had been scheduled for Tuesday to fill
vacant legislative seats.
