One of the 13 Freedom Riders who were beaten by members of
the Ku Klux Klan in Anniston more than 50 years ago returned Monday to speak at
the cities Martin Luther King Junior breakfast
Charles Person said that for a long time he had no desire to return to
the town that he rode through while fighting for civil rights in the
1960s. Person during a speech Monday at
the Anniston City Meeting Center talked about that fateful day saying he had
never seen such hatred, But now, he says you can see this is a wonderful
community. Saying he could live in a community like this, because people here
care. In Gadsden students at Gadsden State Community college celebrated Dr.
King’s dream by offering the community a day of service with a health

Nursing students performed blood pressure checks and other social service
agencies supported the well-attended event.
