Gadsden robbery victim arrested

Michelle Gargus

A Gadsden woman who told police last week she was robbed of a bank deposit for the business she works for has been arrested on charges of theft and filing false police charges.
49 year old Michelle Gargus,  was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center Monday on one felony charge of second-degree theft of property, and two misdemeanor charges of making false reports to a law enforcement authority. Bonds of $1,000 have been set on each charge.
Gadsden police obtained warrants against Gargus after investigators determined that the robbery didn’t happen.
Gargus reported to police on Dec. 14, she left her place of employment on West Meighan Boulevard with the night deposit, only to be followed by suspects who robbed her.
A second misdemeanor warrant was obtained against her for a filing a second false report after she alleged she was assaulted Saturday by a male suspect she said resembled the man who robbed her last week. In the second report, she claimed the man confronted her in her driveway and threatened her to keep her mouth shut, then hit her in the side. She told police she realized after he left that she’d been stabbed with a sharp object.
According to the police report made about that alleged assault, she had several scratches on her side that appeared to be self-inflicted.
