Oxford police are planning a series of meetings in the new
year to strengthen relations with the community.
Chief Bill Partridge said the department is planning its own
version of the popular "Coffee With a Cop" events other departments
have hosted around the country. Locations and times will be announced later.
"Coffee With a Cop" events operate on the idea
that the public and police usually deal with each other at the worst times -
during moments of stress, or even in adversarial circumstances. By meeting with
members of the public in a non-structured event, over a cup of coffee in a
restaurant or public place, officers can hear what is on residents' minds.
