Alabama's massive consolidation of law enforcement agencies
has been completed ahead of the Jan. 1 deadline.
The Legislature voted in 2013 to start the consolidation of
12 law enforcement programs into the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. It set
Jan. 1, 2015, as the deadline. Law Enforcement Secretary Spencer Collier says
the staffs are already working together, and that has resulted in more officers
patrolling Alabama highways during the busy holiday season.
He says another change the public should see soon is online
renewal for driver's licenses and the ability to schedule driving exams online
to avoid waiting at the agency's offices.
