Gadsden Water Works joins in effort to fund school technology

Gadsden Water Works is offering its customers a way to help the city's schools in 2015.  "Change for the Children" will allow water works customers to make a voluntary contribution of 25 cents a month through their water bills. The money will help purchase digital technology for classrooms in Gadsden City Schools.  General Manager Frank Eskridge said the city school board approached the water works board about establishing the program, which involves voluntary, non-mandatory contributions. This would allow the system to have a regular funding source for tablet technology for students. The Gadsden Education Foundation was established by the school board to raise funds for infrastructure costs. Its current focus is digital technology in elementary and middle school.Customers will notice a line item on their water bills beginning in January marked "Change for the Children - Gadsden Education Foundation Donation (Voluntary)." Customers can opt out of the program through a check box on the bill stub.
