Man attacks wife with hatchet

A woman is recovering after authorities said her husband attacked her with a hatchet.  Blount County Sheriff's detectives are still investigating this case. They are still trying to determine motive behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the suspect is behind bars charged with first degree domestic violence and being held on $250,000 bond.
An affidavit shows what authorities believe happened. It said around 12:18 p.m. on Friday, a call came into Blount County EMA and there was no one on the line but dispatchers could hear a man and a woman's voice in the background as they were having a dispute. The call was made from the victim's cell phone.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the home and when they arrived they found the door open. They went inside to do a welfare check and that's when they found a hatchet in the floor, blood on the kitchen floor and the bedroom door broken down.
A relative told authorities the victim had already been taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center. Investigators were able to talk to her there and that is when she told them her husband had hit her in the head with a hatchet.
The woman was flown from Cullman Regional Medical Center to UAB because of her injuries. However, Monday, she was listed in fair condition and is expected to fully recover from her injuries.
