A 35 year old Oxford man has been arrested in connection
with a Sunday morning hit-and-run that injured a Detroit woman standing outside
of an Anniston nightclub.
Anniston police report that Nikolaus Danvar Mitchell, of Oxford was arrested Tuesday, charged with
felony first-degree assault and a felony charge of leaving the scene of an
accident with injuries.
According to Captain Allen George, A search warrant for the
vehicle was secured and the departments Crime Lab investigators processed the
vehicle and were able to recover physical evidence linking the vehicle to the
crime.
21 year old Margie Mitchell,
of Detroit, was hit by a vehicle in a parking lot outside the nightclub
Ambitions on S. Quintard Ave. at about 3 a.m. Sunday, morning while celebrating
her 21st birthday with friends and family.
According to family members, Mitchell suffered spinal
injuries, a broken pelvis, arm and ribs, and burns from the vehicle’s tires.
Calhoun County District Attorney Brian McVeigh said while
Mitchell has been charged with two felonies, he could still be charged with
more serious crimes.
McVeigh said a grand jury could charge him with reckless or
intentional attempted murder.
Mitchell was being held in the Anniston City Jail Tuesday.
The release states that his bond is set at $400,000.
