ALDOT officials announce street closings as Veterans Parkway project heads toward completition

Transportation officials announced on Wednesday that construction crews working on the Veterans Memorial Parkway in Anniston will close sections of Lindale Drive and Sprague Avenue near U.S. 431 beginning today
The two sections will be closed for 500 feet starting at the junction of U.S. 431 and moving north.
According to a release from the Alabama Department of Transportation, the closure is needed for crews to perform drainage work, build a retention area and build the roadbed for Veterans Memorial Parkway to tie into U.S. 431.
The two sections will stay closed until the summer of 2015.
The detour for Lindale Drive will be Whiteside Avenue, which is just south off of U.S. 431, to Patricia Road and back to Lindale Avenue.
The detour for Sprague Avenue will be Glade Road, which is just north off of U.S. 431, to East 49th Street to Bellvue Road and back to Sprague Avenue.
The release also states that before the final portion of the parkway opens, traffic will be shifted on U.S. 431 to different lanes to make the connection to U.S. 431.
When the work is complete, Veterans Memorial Parkway will provide a complete route between U.S. 431 north of downtown across McClellan to Interstate 20’s Exit 188.
